The term channelled art refers to art that is created in a state of consciousness outside of the artist’s own normal state.
It sounds a bit weird, but you’d be surprised how often it’s done...
Many past famous artists have reportedly created visionary artwork by channelling. Even artists who say that they don’t channel will often describe how they get ‘into the zone’, becoming unaware of the passage of time or events around them and then finding they’ve created a beautiful painting. That can be described as a form of channelling. Whether the artist is channelling from an external entity or just in touch with their 'higher self' is open to debate.
Leonardo Da Vinci is probably one of the most famous artists who reported channelling paintings and there are many, many more.
Maybe Leonardo Da Vinci channelled the Mona Lisa... who knows?
Where Does Channelled Artwork come from?
Some channelling artists say that the channelled energy is their own higher self. Some report channelling spirits of those who have passed over, some report channelling elemental spirits and some claim they channel angels. There are even cases of people with no previous artistic ability suddenly channelling the spirit of a great artist - Vincent Van Gogh for example. They then go on to create paintings with remarkable similarities to those of the original artist. Strange but true!
My Art Channelling Process
When I paint, I set up my easel, paints and all my equipment so it’s close at hand. This is because sometimes images come into my mind very quickly and there’s little time to scramble around for the right brush or colour.
If I'm working on a commissioned channelled piece for someone, I will have anything they have provided to help with the connection – perhaps a photograph – close to me too. I turn off my phone, lock the door and light a few candles. I may close the curtains and burn some incense. I have favourite music that helps me to relax too (It’s by UK group, Massive Attack!)
I relax, and go ‘upwards and backwards’. This is a term I use to describe the feeling I have when I’m travelling to the place where I communicate with energies. It feels very much like falling upwards and backwards into the Universe, travelling past stars, galaxies and colourful, cloudy nebulae. When I reach the 'right' place, I feel connected to everything and everyone. I am aware of the paintbrush in my hand, but it seems to know where to go by itself. The process is easy and enjoyable, relaxing and soothing.
I try to clear my mind of any idea of how the painting should look and allow myself to be entirely guided by the energies I connect with.
If you’d like me to work on a channelled commission for you, please get in touch. Wherever in the Universe you are, I’m only an email away!
