Jenny Ulyatt

Jenny is a watercolour artist based at Bridge Studio near Durham City. She creates contemporary lively watercolour landscapes inspired by the British landscape, with the Lake District, Yorkshire, County Durham and Northumberland being of special interest to her. Jenny explores the fluid nature of watercolour and experiments with the surfaces it can be used on.  Her work includes paintings on paper, canvas, vases and mirrors.

Jenny has an academic background in physical geography and worked as a hydrologist in river engineering for 10 years before becoming a full-time artist in 2011.  Early on the site visits and Geography field trips provided a great source of inspiration and she would have plenty of sketches and paintings alongside the data and measurements.

Jenny’s work is still inspired by a passion, understanding and engagement with the landscapes around her.  Her work starts as sketches and photographs taken in the field, these are then refined and explored using memory and imagination in the studio.

Jenny has exhibited widely across the UK, from the Isles of Scilly in the South, to Windsor and Surrey Contemporary Art Fairs, Keswick in the lakes, up to Durham and Newcastle in the North.  Jenny regularly undertakes commissions and really enjoys working with her clients to produce something that is perfect for their home or office, so if you like her style but cannot find what you are looking for then please get in touch.
