Walter Holmes

Walter is a painter whose pictures hang on many walls of his home region - the northeast of England.

His work is mostly representational with a strong structure. He often reviews "completed" pictures and recycles them with new ideas. This intention to produce something better may sometimes end in the waste bin but can also lead to something more unique. He might repeatedly return to a particular location but striving always to see it again as though for the first time.

Most of his art tuition came from the Evening School of Newcastle University during the 1960's. His first solo exhibition was at the Gulbenkian Gallery within the People's Theatre, Newcastle upon Tyne in 1972. Since then he has exhibited in galleries and exhibitions throughout the UK and has sold to collectors abroad.

Walter often wonders what Rembrandt etc would have put in these "statements".
